Electrolux to start production in Ukraine

The Swedish company Electrolux plans to start manufacturing washing machines in Ivano-Frankivsk, western Ukraine, in October 2010. “Electrolux has bought a factory which was owned by Antonio Merloni and now plans to produce washing-machines under the Electrolux and Zanussi brands,” said Bohdan Bilyk, the head of Ivano-Frankivsk town council’s economy and integration administration department.

The Swedish company is reported to have paid about Euro 19 m for the factory. It plans to produce about 36 thousand units by the end of 2010 and in 2011 it is intended that it will produce 340 thousand washing-machines. This expansion by Electrolux is intended to strengthen its position in the Central and Eastern Europe markets.
