Cyprus entices investors

Cyprus in International Business Planning, a planned two-day event being held in the Ajax Hotel, Limassol, from February 9 to 10, is more than the usual business development conference in that not only are qualifying participants being offered free entry, the organisers are even offering free accommodation, meals and transport from the airport to the hotel. Cyprus officially leads international investors into Ukraine, but it is believed that many of these investors are actually Ukrainian and Russian investors taking advantage of the tax regime which applies to Cyprus-based companies.

After registration, the organisers Fiducenter (Cyprus) Ltd will introduce and explain to delegates why companies might choose to use Cyprus as a centre from which to conduct business in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. Cyprus Investment promotion Agency (CIPA) will kick off proceedings in the main conference with a session entitled, “Doing business in Cyprus”, followed by an introduction to the legal regime in Cyprus, from A. Katchies LLC, with an overview of the legal system and characteristics of a limited liability company, transfer of registered office, cross border mergers, obtaining Cypriot citizenship and permanent residence permit.

Alathea Audit Ltd will explain the tax regime of Cyprus and Advance Career Ltd will discuss the human resource market on the island. Further sessions will cover real estate (by Pandomus), the banking system (Marfin Laiki Bank) and the Cyprus Securities Market (by Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission); shipping and the shipping tax regime will be covered by the Department of Merchant Shipping and Marfin Laiki Bank will outline the wealth management services on offer in Cyprus – with the day’s conference followed by a networking dinner in the old centre of Limassol.

The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry will start the second day by explaining the city’s benefits as a business base, followed by A. Katchies LLC on the uses and benefits of a Cyprus International Trust. Eurivex Ltd will dig deeper into Cyprus private investment funds and Cyprus Stock Exchange listing. An explanation of how the Cyprus tax regime can be applied in practice will be presented by organisers Fiducenter (Cyprus) Ltd.

The day and conference will then conclude with a panel discussion on the role of Cyprus in international business planning, including its prospects and the opportunities offered to the international market, taking into account exposure of Cypriot banks to Greek debt, as well as the impact of natural gas discoveries.
