Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov is leading negotiation with Chinese corporations which may invest between US$5 bn to US$20 bn into the Ukraine economy. To date the names of the Chinese companies involved have not been disclosed. However, it is known that there are plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Celestial Empire’s establishments. Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovich, plans to visit China this year to encourage cooperation.
First deputy of Prime Minister Andrey Kluev and the deputy Prime Minister for Euro-2012 Boris Kolesnikov emphasised that the Ukrainian authority wants to attract investment into the projects which need to be completed for Euro-2012, including reconstruction of airports, roads, and railway stations.
The top priority task is to re-build the landing strip at the international airport ‘Borispol’ and the high-speed train branch lining Borispol-Kyiv. Among projects seeking investment from the Chinese are a refuse disposal works and a combustion plant in the Kyiv region. The Celestial Empire’s companies are reported to be interested in Ukraine’s agriculture and to have produced plans for a 10 thousand hectare agropark.
